Modern statistical learning methods allow the extraction of hidden patterns and the simplification or even automation of many decision-making tasks in finance, healthcare, and manufacturing. However, in safety-critical settings, pure performance is not sufficient - Trustworthy and Compliant Machine Learning is needed to ensure that data-driven decision making is transparent, unbiased, privacy-preserving, and legally compliant. I do research on how to create trustworthy, data-driven models with their background in mind. I place particular focus on privacy-preserving machine learning and model explanation methods.
